Games, Newsstand, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Finance and Weather. What do these all have in common? They are just some of the endless options of Smartphone apps available today. The latest and greatest apps can be a conversation starter in a crowded room, a way for you connect with someone or a means of being more productive.

The Smartphone App Market is literally taking the world by storm. Apps can range anywhere from FREE to upwards of $547.31 USD, a price you pay for the KGulf App that shows water level and tidal current prediction. What causes some of these apps to be so intriguing? Augmented reality is the answer.

Augmented reality, better known as AR in the mobile world, is used to describe a live direct or indirect view of a real-life environment whose basics are amplified (or augmented) by virtual sensory such as graphics, audio or GPS information overlay. How big will the AR applications get? Billions of downloads by 2016.

So whether you are looking for your bank’s nearest ATM or the address of businesses with no street numbers, augmented reality will be able to provide you with a step in the right direction.
