Throughout the entire week, my Facebook  newsfeed has been filled with status updates about the KONY 2012 video. The success and fast spread of this viral video is not only due to its emotional appeal, but also because of its use of social media, in particular Facebook.

Facebook timeline is used to tell the story of Jason Russell and how he first learned of Joseph Kony and the rebel group LRA through his friendship with Jacob. With the new Facebook timeline feature, Jason was able to pull up videos and images he had taken to create the KONY 2012 video. His story was easily spread through the world globally to reach individuals like you and me, because the Facebook community is global and is a larger population than any individual country. With Facebook, a virtual community was created to help the Invisible Children. This page currently has more than 2 million Facebook likes and additional supporting pages were also created.

Invisible Children, Inc.’s use of social media and easy call to actions are those which are worth watching and learning from. They integrated Instagram photos, Vimeo, Facebook and Twitter to spread their video and cause. A brand with faces and personality was also created by telling a story making them relatable and memorable.

Are you ready to tell your brand’s story with Facebook Timeline?
